After a consultation with Newham residents, and a lengthy struggle with Central Government, Newham have finally received the go-ahead from the
Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government to introduce a new private rented sector licensing scheme.
The new scheme which will come into force on 1 March 2018 and runs until 28 February 2023.
All landlords with privately rented properties (occupied by one household) will be required to have a licence to operate legally.
Newham Council is offering an early bird discount fee of only £400 per property for applications received by 15 March 2018.
After this time, the regular licensing fee will be £750.
